Sussex Pathways

I would like to thank you all for the opportunity you gave me to become a volunteer with Sussex Pathways. My experiences mentoring have not only helped me develop communication skills and open me up to a whole new world, but has also helped my mentee develop and change into a person he never thought he would become.
By the time I had finished working with my mentee he had been out of custody for over six months (which was an achievement in itself), and started to address his issues around drugs and alcohol. He began attending AA meetings which he surprised himself by really enjoying. Without the help that Sussex Pathways gave him, he would more than likely be back in custody and looking at spending the rest of his life bouncing from being on the streets and in a prison cell. I think the thing that helped him most was knowing there was someone there for him, who cared and who could be proud of him for his achievements, as well as encourage him to make the changes he needed.
Volunteering was an extremly rewarding experience and I hope there are many others out there that join up to become mentors. I will certainly be doing something similar in the future.
Sussex Pathways is a fantastic charity that could help thousands of inmates across the country if it were rolled out nationally. I wish you all the best with the future and hope that the charity goes from strength to strength. A Mentor
