Community chaplaincy projects were introduced in Canada in the early 1990s and are now an established part of the CJS (Criminal Justice System). The projects have demonstrated a constant, significant reduction in re-offending rates.
Community chaplaincy projects were introduced in the UK in the late 1990s. There are now 14 in existence and a further 10 in development. Those in operation for longer than 2 years have also demonstrated a significant reduction in re-offending rates with the offenders they support from 65% to 25%.
