Become a mentor

  • The interview panel (member of the Prison Chaplaincy,  member of the trustee board) interview all applicants prior to acceptance.
    • Every accepted interviewee must pass an enhanced CRB check.
    • A pre-training prison visit can be arranged for those who require one.

    Training:

    • Sussex Pathways organises a 4-day training course based on the Clinks course “Volunteering with Offenders in the Community”. This is enhanced by the prison, and there is a particular section on interviewing skills.
    • HMP Lewes organises a further 1-day induction course for volunteers working in the prison.

Sussex Pathways believes in the importance of continuing to develop its training, and to this end is a member of the Social Mentoring Research Group at Brighton University.
